National Epidermolysis Bullosa Dressing Scheme

Important Changes to the Scheme’s Eligibility Criteria

On 1 October 2012, the Australian Government announced the removal of all age restrictions from the Scheme’s eligibility criteria.  This policy amendment enables greater access and support of patients living with EB.

In the 2009 – 2010 Budget, the Australian Government committed $16.4m over four years to establish the National Epidermolysis Bullosa Dressing Scheme (“National EB Dressing Scheme”).  The scheme supports eligible people with Epidermolysis Bullosa by improving access to dressings and bandages which can be costly. Dressings help reduce infection, complications and unnecessary hospitalisations.

The National EB Dressing Scheme commenced on 1 January 2010 and is administered on behalf of the Australian Government by BrightSky Australia, in consultation with the National EB Dressing Scheme Clinical Advisory Committee and the Australian Government - Department of Health and Ageing.
